    Description

    The Buffalo Book
    by David Dary
This is a First Edition, First Printing hardback volume published in 1974 by the Swallow Press of Chicago. It measures 6.25 x 9.25 inches in size and is 374 pages long. It is in very fine condition, but does not have a dust jacket.
    Subtitled
“The Full Saga of the American Animal,”
it has illustrated end-pages, and numerous photos or drawings scattered among the text.
    The book
examines the origin of the buffalo in North America, its locations, migrations, habits, its role in Native American and white cultures, and the lore from both cultures. It includes an index, bibliography, endnotes, as well as appendices on raising and cooking buffalo or bison.
In his Introduction, the author says:
“The purpose in writing this book was to gather between two covers thebest information relating to the American buffalo from the time the first animal arrived in North America until today. This account is factual, and where possible conclusions have been drawn. But much lore and legend about the buffalo have also been included; these are part of the animal's story, and without them the story is not complete.”
